Codename Eagle Mapmaking: Learning by example

Tools Required:

    -Codename Eagle

    -Mapmaker tools

    -Paint Shop Pro

    -Support files for this tutorial cetut1.exe

    

1. Make your height map

    -Open up Paint Shop Pro

    -Create a New Image, 512x512 pixels, background color black, grayscale.

    -Set up your color to a medium gray

    -Set your Airbrush Tool Options

    -Paint brighter colors where you want

     the land to be higher in elevation

   -pure black is the lowest elevation

     pure white is the highest elevation

 

Create an image that looks like this:

 displace1.jpg (10830 bytes)

 

   -Save your image as displace1.tga (always use these settings for saving)

            -Chose Save As from the file menu. 

            -Set the Save as type to "Truevision Targa (*.tga)"

            -Click the "Options" button

            -Set the settings as in the image at right: >

            -Press OK and set the file name to: c:\cetut1\tga\displace1.tga

            -Press OK, Choose yes.

    -Create your color map

        -Save the image again by choosing SAVE AS and naming it c:\cetut1\tga\color2.tga

        -Increase the color Depth to maximum colors.

                -Select: Colors>Increase Color Depth>16 Million Colors

        -Paint over the image with colors of your choice and save it when finished
